IEG Fellowships Programme 2024/2025 for Doctoral Study in Germany

Are you a doctoral student interested in conducting research in Germany? The Leibniz Institute of European History is offering several Fellowships for doctoral research study, open to PhD students from Germany and abroad who have a background in history, theology, or a related historical discipline.

To be eligible, applicants must have a Masters level degree and have been pursuing their doctorate for no more than three years at the time of taking up the fellowship. The fellowship provides a monthly value of € 1,350 and requires fellows to submit a final report of their project at the end of the funding period.

IEG Fellowships Programme 2024/25

As a research institution that is not part of a university, the Institute does not hold examinations or award academic qualifications. Dissertations are completed under the supervision of the fellow’s home university. Fellowship holders will receive € 1,350 per month for conducting their research project at the IEG.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the IEG Fellowships, applicants must be international doctoral students enrolled full-time in a program. Dissertations must be supervised by the fellow’s home university supervisor.

Fellowship Benefits

The IEG Fellowships for Doctoral Students provide a monthly stipend of € 1,350, jointly funded by the federal and state government. Fellowship holders may be eligible for family and child allowances if bringing a partner and/or children to Mainz. No other form of funding or employment can be pursued during the fellowship.
