KAP Film and Television Academy e-Learning Programme

KAP Film and Television Academy e-Learning Programme was founded by Kunle Afolayan, a prominent and well known Nigerian actor, producer and director. He is not only known in Nigeria but all over the world especially for his success on the recent wave-making film, Aníkúlápò. He is the founder of Kunle Afolayan Productions, a film-making company and KAP Film and Television Academy, a film-making training academy.

KAP Film and Television Academy is a school of film-making where youths from all over the world are taught how to write, produce, direct, and edit films and many other film related skills. KAP Film and Television Academy also partners with Netflix and University of Southern California School of Theatre arts to bring successful professionals in various fields of film-making from around the world to teach students.

As a way of giving back to the society and particularly the youths, In the year 2022, KAP Film and TV academy partnered with MasterCard Foundation to launch KAP Film and Television E-Learning Programme. The KAP e-Learning programme is for young people who want to join the film industry. This programme is meant to train thousands of Nigerian youths for free (on Scholarship) in film directing, producing and other fields of film-making. This training scholarship is going to cover the training fee of all qualified applicants.

This is a great opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to jumpstart their career in the Nollywood film industry.

Eligibility Criteria for KAP Film and Television eLearning Programme

In order to qualify for this programme, applicants are required to meet the following criteria:

  1. Nationality: applicant must be a Nigerian citizen or hold permanent residentship of Nigeria. All non-Nigerian applications will be automatically declined.
  2. Interest: applicants must demonstrate great passion for film making and high urge to be part of the largest film industry in Africa.
  3. Education: applicants must have graduated from secondary school and have an O’level result of at least 4 credits in any four subjects.
  4. Age: applicants must be between the age range of 18-35 years as at the time of application. Underage and overage applicants will be disqualified.
  5. Contact: applicants must have a working email and phone number. It is extremely important for the application process.

Application Deadline:

Application for the KAP e-Learning programme is all-year-round (continuous) and it currently has no deadline.

The three Phases of Programme

This learning programme is divided into three phases. They are:

1. The master class series:

This is a virtual series that covers every aspect of film-making ranging from directing, cinematography to script development, production and the business of film. The acclaimed films; “the figurine” and “October 1” directed by Kunle Afolayan will be used as case studies.

2. Introduction to film-making (Level one certification):

This phase is where all participants in the programme are taught online. They get a foundation on all aspects of film-making from development to distribution. It is an 8-week digital course.

3. Specialization in film-making (Level two certification):

This phase consists of two parts and will be completed in 8-weeks. Participants are allowed to choose the area of film-making they would like to specialize in. The first 4 weeks are used for extensive training in their area of specialization after which participants will be posted to a production company where they will spend the remaining 4 weeks as interns.

How to Apply for KAP Film and Television E-Learning Programme

Application for KAP e-Learning programme is completely online and no application or processing fee is required.

Step 1: Registration

Firstly, you have to create an account on KAP Film and Television Academy’s official website using your email address and a password that you must not forget.

Step 2: Personal Information

After creating the account, you will be taken to another page containing a form where you have to fill in all your personal information. This includes your phone number, email, home address, full name, gender etc

Step 3: Background information

This is where you will be asked questions about your home, your family and appliances that you have in your house. It is advisable to be very honest in this section to avoid your answers from the previous step from contradicting answers in this section.

Step 4: Educational Information

This is where you will be asked to provide your statement of result that will be used to evaluate your educational background. You must have an O’level result with at least 4 credits. You can also use tertiary institution results such as your OND, HND or degree in any course.

Step 5: Identity information

In this step, you will be asked to upload any means of Identification to verify your identity. There are lots of documents or IDs you can use e.g Driver’s License, National ID card, students ID and many more. You can even use your WAEC ID card for the verification.

Step 6: Confirmation

An email will be sent to you to confirm that you have successfully completed the application and you will be contacted when there’s a slot for you. However, it might be up to a month or more before they contact you for the training but you will surely get a spot.

Step 7: Admission and Tablet delivery

When there’s a spot for you, an admission letter will be sent to you through your email. The email will also contain information on how you will get your tablet. You have to pay your tablet delivery fee which is around ₦1,500 – ₦4,000 depending on your location in Nigeria. Some parts of Lagos get free delivery while some also have to pay.

Special Note

Please note that Participants in this programme are classified into two classes, the low income earning and the high income earning people. The low income earning people are given full scholarships and they get the training and tablet for free.

While the high income earning people are given partial scholarships, they have to pay ₦25,000 for the level 1 which originally, an average Film Academy will charge around ₦200,000 – ₦300,000 for. They also have to pay ₦125,000 for the level 2 which an average Film Academy charges up to ₦700,000 for.
