What is the UNESCO Prize for Girls and Women’s Education 2025?

Who can nominate, and how does the nomination work?
Nominations must be submitted by either a UNESCO Member State’s Permanent Delegation via its National Commission or an NGO in official partnership with UNESCO. Self-nominations are not accepted and each nominating entity may propose up to three candidates. After nomination, the Secretariat grants access to an online platform where the candidate completes the application, which must then be validated and submitted by the nominating body.
What is the timeline, and when will the 2025 laureates be announced and honoured?
The call for nominations opened on 5 March 2025 and closed with the online submission deadline of 12 May 2025 (midnight UTC+1, Paris time). An independent international jury reviews the submissions in June–July, the two laureates are announced in early October, and the awards ceremony is held around 11 October 2025 in conjunction with International Day of the Girl Child
