WAEC Announces Computer-Based WASSCE for Private Candidates in Nigeria

After initially facing resistance, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced its plans to conduct the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates using a computer-based model in Nigeria.

Examination Schedule and Format

According to Dangut, the CB-WASSCE is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, January 31, and conclude on Saturday, February 17, 2024, with candidates being tested in 19 subjects encompassing 26 papers in a hybrid mode. The hybrid mode involves rendering Objective or Multiple Choice questions on-screen, requiring candidates to respond digitally. Essay and Practical questions will also be presented on-screen, but responses will be recorded using provided answer booklets.

WAEC announced that a total of 8,285 candidates had registered for the examination, with 3,949 being male (47.66%) and 4,336 female (52.3%) from across the federation.
