Funded by the UK Department for Education (DfE), Commonwealth PhD Scholarships aim to equip talented individuals with the necessary skills for sustainable development through full-time doctoral study in the UK.
These scholarships are categorized under six themes:

- Strengthening health systems and capacity
- Promoting global prosperity
- Strengthening global peace, security and governance
- Strengthening resilience and response to crises
- Access, inclusion, and opportunity
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for Commonwealth PhD Scholarships (for high income countries), applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of or have refugee status in an eligible Commonwealth country, or a British Protected Person
- Be a permanent resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
- Be enrolled for a PhD at a university in an eligible Commonwealth country by the beginning of the scholarship (September 2024)
- Have an institutional or departmental link between your home university and the proposed UK university
- Be ready to start academic studies in the UK in September 2024
- Hold a first degree of at least upper second class honors standard by September 2024
- Be financially unable to study in the UK without the scholarship
