MATSUMAE International Foundation Research Fellowship Details
Fellowships are provided to successful applicants for necessary living expenses and research activities in Japan. The fellowship is not transferable and does not cover immigration procedures, airline tickets, or accommodation expenses for family members or companions of the selected applicant.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the MATSUMAE International Foundation Research Fellowship Program, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Obtain an invitation letter from a host institution in Japan
- Hold a Ph.D. (Doctoral degree)
- Be 49 years old or younger at the time of application
- Have proficiency in English or Japanese
- Not having past or current long-term stays in Japan
- Have an occupation in their home country and plan to return after the fellowship
Fellowship Benefits
Successful applicants will receive a monthly allowance of JPY 220,000 for research and living expenses, JPY 120,000 for initial living costs, round-trip airfare to Japan, overseas travel insurance, and a study tour opportunity.
