Introduction
The Swansea University Fully Funded Scholarship for Ph.D. in Physics application is open for eligible candidates of all nationalities.
Overview
The strong interaction force of particle physics has generated a lot of interest in the scientific community. One of its unique characteristics is its ability to bind quarks into protons, neutrons, and other hadrons with the strength equivalent to that of three elephants combined (15 tonnes), whereas at high temperatures similar to those experienced after the Big Bang, it grows weak and hadrons stop clinging together. Further exploring this confinement factor and temperature manipulation are subjects of intense research and a $1M Millennium Prize.
Research for the Ph.D. thesis is being conducted on the enigma behind “confinement”. One proposed approach involves carrying out computations relating to central vortices, seeing as they’re appearing as a major part of strong interaction’s fundamentals and are also fundamentally correlated with confinement itself. A second potential strategy includes using numerical simulations on hadron spectrums to understand the temperature-dependent properties of confinement, using unfamiliar systems capable of specifying deconfinement alongside similar phenomena including resonance widening.

Eligibility
- Interested candidates of any nationality can apply
- You must hold an undergraduate degree at 2.1 level or
- A master’s degree with a minimum overall grade at ‘Merit’ (or Non-UK equivalent as defined by Swansea University).
English Language requirements:
If applicable – IELTS 6.5 overall (with at least 6.0 in each individual component) or Swansea recognized equivalent.

Scholarship Benefits
This scholarship covers:
- The full tuition fees and an annual stipend at UKRI rate (currently £17,668 for 2022/23).
- Additional research expenses will also be available.
