2023 MTN Scholarships for Undergraduates
The 2023 MTN Scholarships for Undergraduates is out. These scholarships are of three (3) different kinds; the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS), MTN Scholarship for Blind Students(SBS) and the Top Ten (3) UTME Scholarships.
(A.) MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS):
The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) is a flagship program of MTN, which has been running since 2010. It is available to eligible Nigerian students studying Science and Technology-related courses at the 300 level in Public Tertiary Institutions such as Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.
STS Scholarship Benefit
This scholarship aims to support the education of talented students by awarding scholarships worth N200,000 annually until their graduation, provided they maintain the required grades.
(B.) MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS):
In 2012, the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) was launched to cater to the needs of visually impaired students. This scholarship is open to eligible blind students studying any course at the 200 and 300 levels in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions, including Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.
SBS Scholarship Benefit
The aim is to empower visually impaired students by granting scholarships worth N200,000 annually until their graduation, on the condition that they maintain the required grades.
(C.) The Top Ten (10) UTME Scholarship
Since the year 2020, MTN began awarding top 10 of the highest scoring candidates in each year’s UTME according to JAMB’s announcement.
UTME Scholarship Benefit
Each of the chosen top ten (10) candidates are awarded a scholarship worth of N200,000 annually from their first year to final year if they maintain a good academic standing.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be considered for the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) or the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS), applicants must meet the following criteria:
Institution of Study:
– Both scholarships are open to Nigerian students enrolled in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions, including Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.
Course of Study:
– The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) is available to 300 level students pursuing Science and Technology-related courses in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions.
– The MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) is open to blind students at the 200 and 300 levels, studying any course in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions.
Level of Study:
– For the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS), applications are accepted from students who have completed their second semester 200 level examinations and are progressing to the 300 level.
Additionally, current 300 level students are also eligible to apply.
– As for the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS), applications are accepted from blind students at the 200 and 300 levels in any Nigerian Public Tertiary Institution.
However, blind students studying Law, which is a 5-year course, can only apply at the 300 level.
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA):
– For the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS)
>>STEM students in Public Universities and Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5 (second class upper credit).
>>STEM students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.
>>Direct entry level STEM students must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program and must have secured admission into the 300 level/3rd year in a Public University.
– For the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS)
>>Blind students in Universities or Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5. Blind students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.
>>By offering these scholarships, MTN aims to provide financial support and promote excellence in education among Nigerian students pursuing Science and Technology-related courses and visually impaired students in various fields of study.
