Prof. H.O. Thomas Scholarship for Medical Students

The annual Prof. H.O. Thomas Scholarship for Medical Students is ongoing for 2023. The Horatio Oritsejolomi Thomas Foundation aims to offer financial assistance to students at the College of Medicine of Lagos who have either reached, or are approaching, 2nd MB or it’s equivalent, but will likely be unable to complete the degree course through lack of funds.

Students must be able to show excellent examination results and provide confirmation from the College of Medicine of their inability to complete the MBBS degree course due to financial hardship.

About Us

The Foundation was established in 2006 by the family of the late Professor Horatio Oritsejolomi Thomas. Prof. Thomas was passionate about medical education – he believed that medical education was essential to the country’s development and strived tirelessly throughout his life to make the standard of teaching medicine in Nigeria second to none.

Eligibility

The applicant must be a student of the College of Medicine at the University of Lagos and will either have reached, or be approaching 2nd MB or its equivalent, but will likely be unable to complete the degree course through lack of funds.

The applicant must be an ‘A grade’ student and be able to show that financial hardship is a serious constraint to their continued study. Confirmation of these two criteria will be required in writing from the Provost CMUL. Once offered, bursaries will be renewed annually until the completion of the MBBS degree, assuming always, satisfactory academic performance.
