The Future Nursing Scholarship Awards (for Nigerian Nurses & Midwives)

The Future Nursing Scholarship Awards scheme offers scholarships, fellowships, and professional development opportunities to Nurses and Midwives across the length and breadth of Nigeria. This program is meant to support Nigerian nurses as they become future nurse leaders in Nigeria and join a global network of health professionals committed to making a positive difference in the country.

The Future Nursing Program was created due to the world’s need for more “new nurses” as a result of both an increase in demand caused by the pandemic and reduced retention within the existing nursing workforce.

The Future Nursing Scholarship Awards

Nurses and midwives registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) can take advantage of our partially funded scholarships in order to further their career in Nursing.

Scholarship Benefit:

Each awardee is entitled to a sum of N100,000 per each academic year for a period of 3-4 years.

Eligibility For Future Nursing Scholarship Awards

This scholarship award comes in 3 different categories:

1st Category: New Nurse Applicants (Entry Level)

You must be a permanent residence of Nigeria
Must be 18 years and above
Must have Distinctions in minimum of three (3) O-level courses
Must be admitted into full time studying towards registration as a nurse but yet to resume academic program.
Not an employee nor former employee of the government
Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format
Must show evidence of need (be unable to afford studying without this funding) in the application
Maintain equivalent academic standing following admission and throughout the program
To remain in the country of residence for minimum of 2 years post graduation or award expiration
Agree to work as a registered nurse in an approved healthcare facility in Nigeria with the support of the programme Board for a minimum of 2 years post graduation or award expiration.

2nd Category: Existing Nursing Students (School Level)

- Students
- Permanent residence of Nigeria
- Completed Year 2 university or year 1 in school of nursing
- To remain in the country of residence for minimum of 2 years post graduation or award expiration
- Have a minimum of 2:1 or upper second class or equivalent of Credits for schools and colleges
- Maintain equivalent academic standing throughout the program
- Admitted in an accredited government (Public only) and NCE approved university or school/college of nursing
- Must be in full time studying towards registration as a nurse and not working
- Not an employee or former employee of the government
- Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format
- Must show evidence of need (be unable to afford studying without this funding) in the application
- Agree to work as a registered nurse in an approved healthcare facility in Nigeria with the support of the FNS Board for a minimum of 2 years post graduation or award expiration.

3rd Category: Staff Nurses Enrolled in a Postgraduate Study (Working Level)

Permanent residence of Nigeria
Must be registered as a nurse in Nigeria and interested in further education studies Nursing related courses.
Have a minimum of 2:1 or upper second class or equivalent of Credits for schools and colleges
Currently work as a licensed nurse in any health affiliated facility with minimum of 2 years work experience
Admitted in an accredited government (public only) and approved university or school/college of nursing
Must be admitted into a full time or part-time nursing program (Diploma, BSC, or Masters level).
To remain in the country of residence for minimum of 2 years post graduation or award expiration
Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format
Must show evidence of need (be unable to afford studying without this funding) in the application
Agree to work as a registered nurse in an approved healthcare facility in Nigeria for a minimum of 2 years post graduation or award expiration.
Winners will be required to enter into a prize agreement governing the terms and conditions of acceptance of the Future Nursing Scholarship

Selection and Validation Process

APPLICATION CYCLE

Scholarship application will be an annual process with application starting December every year with submission of all applications scheduled for March of the following year.
Review of eligible applications will take between 6-8 weeks following the application deadline with the invitation of eligible applicants for a scheduled interview which will serve as the second phase of the selection process.
Interview of successful applicants and returning awardees will hold early weeks of June
Decision and mailing of awardees will be scheduled for July against the next academic year

COHORT 2- 2022/2023 Session

The first cohort of the Future Nursing Scholarship will be launching in December, 2022 as a pilot opportunity for successful Nigerian Nursing students to access funding for their studies.
